We already know that Digital Realty, a rising international colocation and interconnection data center owner/operator, is intent upon expanding its literal IT footprint in the real estate investment trust business. eWEEK reported on this last fall when DR completed its merger with DuPont Fabros, an owner, developer, operator and manager of enterprise-class, carrier-neutral, multi-tenant data centers.
Turns out that the Chicago and Santa Clara, Calif.-based company also is focused on expanding its internet services offerings in other ways.
DR, already a member of the Oracle Partner Network, revealed Jan. 22 that it will start offering dedicated and private access to Oracle Cloud through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) FastConnect in 14 major metropolitan areas. These connections help ensure high performance and optimal reliability of enterprise applications within Oracle’s cloud, which occupies more than 500,000 square feet across 16 Digital Realty locations.
Private-access internet services like this are extremely difficult for hackers to access, thus the major reason for having them in the first place: They are 99 (or more) percent secure and certainly not inexpensive, but if an enterprise requires this level of service, it will seek it out.
Access to OCI is being made available through Digital Realty’s Service Exchange in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley and Ashburn, Va. As a result, a total of 59 Digital Realty data centers support private connections to Oracle’s Infrastructure as a Service.
Oracle FastConnect enables customers to set up a hybrid cloud for an effective way to create fast, low-latency, private and dedicated connectivity to Oracle Cloud. Digital Realty’s Service Exchange gives enterprises private, secure, high-throughput and low-latency access over a single interface to OCI and other cloud providers, overcoming some of the limitations of the public Internet.
It allows users to manage physical and virtual connections through a single portal and gives them the visibility and reporting capabilities they need to address their connectivity requirements more rapidly and efficiently, the company said.
Digital Realty supports the data center, colocation and interconnection strategies of more than 2,300 firms across its secure portfolio of data. The company’s clients include domestic and international firms of all sizes, ranging from financial services, cloud and information technology services, to manufacturing, energy, gaming, life sciences and consumer products.
